Aluminium sliding doors in Walthamstow Village

The housing in Walthamstow Village is largely Victorian terraces with sash windows and a few much older buildings. In Victorian side-return extensions, a two or three-panel sliding door gives wide views while staying practical in narrow gardens where swinging doors would get in the way.

Larger detached homes can use multi-panel sliding doors across wide rear openings, but structural steelwork and drainage need careful planning before installation. On period homes in conservation areas, rear sliding doors are often acceptable where hidden from the street, but confirm with the council before ordering.

The Village is a conservation area, so Waltham Forest Council expects changes to front windows and doors to suit the historic style. We check the guidance and, where needed, help with the planning side before work begins. The streets are narrow and parking is tight, so we plan fitting days carefully.

Sliding patio doors use large glass panels that glide along a track, opening up a rear wall without taking any space inside or out. Made with slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, living rooms and modern homes where owners want maximum glass, views and daylight.

• Slides open without swinging into rooms
• Maximises views and natural light
• Low threshold options for easier access
