Aluminium doors in Walthamstow Village

The housing in Walthamstow Village is largely Victorian terraces with sash windows and a few much older buildings. On Victorian terraces with kitchen extensions, an aluminium single door beside a window or sliding door keeps sightlines consistent across the new rear elevation.

Larger detached homes often use aluminium doors to link kitchens, garden rooms and terraces, matching frame colours across every opening on the rear elevation. In conservation areas, aluminium doors are usually better placed on hidden rear elevations, where their modern look will not conflict with the street scene.

The Village is a conservation area, so Waltham Forest Council expects changes to front windows and doors to suit the historic style. We check the guidance and, where needed, help with the planning side before work begins. The streets are narrow and parking is tight, so we plan fitting days carefully.

Aluminium doors combine strong, slim frames with modern powder-coated finishes and are used for front entrances, back doors and garden access. They suit contemporary homes and extensions, and anyone wanting a sleek, durable door that holds its shape and colour well with little upkeep.

• Slim, strong frames that stay rigid
• Durable powder-coated finishes in many colours
• Thermally broken for good insulation
