Aluminium bifold doors for Hackney Wick homes
Homes in Hackney Wick are mostly converted warehouses, canalside apartments and new-build flats. On modern homes, anthracite grey bifolds with integral blinds can manage privacy and strong sunlight on south-facing rear elevations.
Bifolds suit ground-floor flats and maisonettes with gardens, but check the lease and get freeholder approval, as alterations to external walls are often restricted. On Victorian side-return extensions, a three-panel bifold with a traffic door works well, giving everyday access without folding back the whole set.
Nearly every home here is a flat, so the first step is approval from the freeholder or managing agent, and we prepare the technical details they ask for. Tight canalside access is planned at the survey. The Wick is about 4.6 miles from our Edmonton factory.
Bifold doors are made of several panels that fold and stack neatly to one side, opening almost the full width of a wall to the garden. With slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, garden rooms and homes where owners want a seamless link between indoor and outdoor living.
- Opens almost the full width
- Slim, strong aluminium frames
- Wide choice of powder-coated colours

Questions from Hackney Wick
Do I need planning permission for aluminium bifold doors in Hackney Wick?
Planning powers here passed from the London Legacy Development Corporation back to the boroughs in December 2024, and parts of the Wick are in conservation areas, so we confirm the current position before quoting. Replacing existing doors with bifolds on a house is usually permitted development and covered by FENSA, but new or widened openings need Building Regulations approval, and flats, listed buildings and conservation areas may need planning consent.
How soon can you fit aluminium bifold doors in Hackney Wick?
Lead times vary by product and workload — confirmed with your quote. Being about 4.6 miles from our factory makes surveys, fitting days and aftercare visits easy to arrange.
Should bifold doors open inwards or outwards?
Outward opening is most common, as the panels stack outside and do not take up room space. Inward opening suits small patios, balconies or areas exposed to strong wind. The best choice depends on where you want the stacked panels to sit and how you use the space.
Can I see samples before I decide?
Yes. Our showroom is at Unit G, 1 Anthony Way, London N18 3QT (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm), about 4.6 miles from Hackney Wick. We can also bring samples to your home in Hackney Wick at the free survey.
