Sash windows in Leytonstone

The housing in Leytonstone is largely Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many converted to flats. Victorian and Edwardian terraces often have two-over-two or one-over-one sashes with horns, and matching that pattern exactly keeps the front elevation consistent with neighbouring houses.

In mansion blocks, sash replacement is often controlled by the freeholder or managing agent, so get written approval of the glazing pattern and material before ordering. Some 1920s houses have sash windows alongside bays, so note whether the bay sashes slide or are fixed before deciding how closely to match the original arrangement.

The A12 cuts through the area in a deep cutting, and homes nearby, as well as those on the High Road, pick up traffic noise day and night. We recommend acoustic glazing for these. Some streets are in conservation areas, so we check with Waltham Forest Council first. Leytonstone is about 3.5 miles from our workshop.

Sliding sash windows open vertically and give period homes their familiar look, with balanced sashes, horns and glazing bars. We make replacement sash windows to match original proportions, suiting owners of Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian properties who want better insulation and security without losing traditional character.

• Traditional look with modern weather sealing
• Matched to original proportions and glazing bars
• Fewer draughts and rattles than worn originals
