Aluminium sliding doors in Chelsea

Around Chelsea you will mostly find Georgian and Victorian terraces, mansion blocks and mews houses. On period homes in conservation areas, rear sliding doors are often acceptable where hidden from the street, but confirm with the council before ordering.

In Victorian side-return extensions, a two or three-panel sliding door gives wide views while staying practical in narrow gardens where swinging doors would get in the way. Sliding doors suit flats opening onto balconies or terraces because they do not swing, but check freeholder consent and drainage at the threshold first.

Most of Chelsea lies inside conservation areas, and a fair number of houses are listed, so we look at planning before we talk about products. Where replacing the sashes is not an option, slim secondary glazing gives real gains in warmth and quiet, especially for rooms facing the Embankment or the King's Road. Parking is tight, so we sort out bay suspensions and loading in advance.

Sliding patio doors use large glass panels that glide along a track, opening up a rear wall without taking any space inside or out. Made with slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, living rooms and modern homes where owners want maximum glass, views and daylight.
