Aluminium sliding doors in Ladbroke Grove

Homes in Ladbroke Grove are mostly stucco terraces, Victorian houses, council blocks and converted flats. In Victorian side-return extensions, a two or three-panel sliding door gives wide views while staying practical in narrow gardens where swinging doors would get in the way.

Sliding doors suit flats opening onto balconies or terraces because they do not swing, but check freeholder consent and drainage at the threshold first. On period homes in conservation areas, rear sliding doors are often acceptable where hidden from the street, but confirm with the council before ordering.

The Ladbroke conservation area covers much of the south, so Kensington & Chelsea Council expects sympathetic sash windows; we check before quoting. Homes near the Westway or the Hammersmith & City line benefit from acoustic glass. We are about 9.7 miles away and plan parking carefully.

Sliding patio doors use large glass panels that glide along a track, opening up a rear wall without taking any space inside or out. Made with slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, living rooms and modern homes where owners want maximum glass, views and daylight.

• Large panes with slim aluminium frames
