Double glazing in Arkley

The housing in Arkley is largely detached houses on large plots, cottages and some semi-detached homes. Detached homes have more external walls and windows losing heat, so upgrading every window to modern double glazing at once gives consistent comfort throughout.

Original 1930s leaded lights can be replicated within double glazed units, so you keep the decorative pattern while gaining modern insulation and quieter rooms. In conservation areas, slim double glazed units can sometimes be fitted into traditional-style frames, but check with the council first, as listed buildings usually need consent.

Arkley is about 8.4 miles from our Edmonton factory. Much of the land is green belt, and some properties are listed or near conservation areas, so we check with Barnet Council before quoting on extensions or changes to openings.

Double glazing uses two panes of glass with a sealed, insulating gap between them, cutting heat loss, draughts and condensation compared with single glazing. We fit it in new windows and doors or as replacement sealed units, suiting almost every home, from older properties still single glazed to houses with failed units.

• Warmer rooms and lower heat loss
• Quieter rooms than single glazing
• Toughened and laminated safety glass options
