Sash windows in Wormley

Around Wormley you will mostly find interwar and post-war semis, bungalows, cottages and newer cul-de-sac houses. Some 1920s houses have sash windows alongside bays, so note whether the bay sashes slide or are fixed before deciding how closely to match the original arrangement.

Newer homes built in a traditional style sometimes have mock sashes, and genuine sliding sashes can replace them where you want a more authentic opening action. On larger period houses with many sashes, prioritise the most draughty or damaged windows first, and record the glazing bar layouts so later phases match exactly.

We are about 8.5 miles away, straight up the A10 from Edmonton. Older properties near the church may be listed or within a conservation area, so we check with Broxbourne Borough Council where needed. Bungalows here also suit tilt-and-turn and casement windows.

Sliding sash windows open vertically and give period homes their familiar look, with balanced sashes, horns and glazing bars. We make replacement sash windows to match original proportions, suiting owners of Victorian, Edwardian and Georgian properties who want better insulation and security without losing traditional character.

• Matched to original proportions and glazing bars
• Smooth vertical sliding operation
• Fewer draughts and rattles than worn originals
