Double glazing in Stroud Green

The housing in Stroud Green is largely tall Victorian terraces and large semis, many divided into flats. Many Victorian terraces still have single-glazed sashes, and moving to double glazing is often the biggest single comfort upgrade, whether through new windows or secondary glazing.

Original 1930s leaded lights can be replicated within double glazed units, so you keep the decorative pattern while gaining modern insulation and quieter rooms. If your flat's frames are in good order, replacing only failed or misted double glazed units may avoid the need for freeholder approval for new windows.

Because so many homes here are flats, we usually arrange freeholder consent before work begins, and check with Haringey or Islington Council depending on which side of the boundary you are on. Some streets fall within conservation areas. We are about 4 miles from Stroud Green, and plan parking for fitting day in advance.

Double glazing uses two panes of glass with a sealed, insulating gap between them, cutting heat loss, draughts and condensation compared with single glazing. We fit it in new windows and doors or as replacement sealed units, suiting almost every home, from older properties still single glazed to houses with failed units.

• Warmer rooms and lower heat loss
• Quieter rooms than single glazing
• Toughened and laminated safety glass options
