Aluminium sliding doors for Hornsey homes
Around Hornsey you will mostly find bay-fronted Victorian and Edwardian terraces, flat conversions and some newer blocks. In Victorian side-return extensions, a two or three-panel sliding door gives wide views while staying practical in narrow gardens where swinging doors would get in the way.
Sliding doors suit flats opening onto balconies or terraces because they do not swing, but check freeholder consent and drainage at the threshold first. For restaurants, cafés and offices, sliding doors save floor space and give an open frontage onto terraces, though accessibility and escape routes must still be considered.
The East Coast Main Line runs past Hornsey station and the big train depot, so homes nearby can be noisy. Acoustic glazing, which uses two different thicknesses of glass, reduces that. Hornsey is about 3.5 miles from our Edmonton factory, and we always check freeholder consent for flats before fitting.
Sliding patio doors use large glass panels that glide along a track, opening up a rear wall without taking any space inside or out. Made with slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, living rooms and modern homes where owners want maximum glass, views and daylight.
- Large panes with slim aluminium frames
- Maximises views and natural light
- Low threshold options for easier access
Questions from Hornsey
Do I need planning permission for aluminium sliding doors in Hornsey?
Some streets in Hornsey fall within conservation areas, so we check with Haringey Council before quoting. Converted flats also need freeholder consent and may need planning permission. Replacing existing patio doors on a house is generally permitted development and covered by FENSA, but new or widened openings need Building Regulations approval, and flats, listed buildings and conservation areas may need planning consent.
How soon can you fit aluminium sliding doors in Hornsey?
Lead times vary by product and workload — confirmed with your quote. Being about 3.6 miles from our factory makes surveys, fitting days and aftercare visits easy to arrange.
Are aluminium sliding doors secure?
Yes. Good sliding doors have multi-point locks, anti-lift features that stop panels being lifted off the track, and toughened or laminated glass options. As with any door, correct installation and a good-quality cylinder are key to keeping the doors secure.
Can I see samples before I decide?
Yes. Our showroom is at Unit G, 1 Anthony Way, London N18 3QT (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm), about 3.6 miles from Hornsey. We can also bring samples to your home in Hornsey at the free survey.
