Double glazing for Homerton homes

Around Homerton you will mostly find Victorian terraces, council estates, newer blocks and converted warehouses. Many Victorian terraces still have single-glazed sashes, and moving to double glazing is often the biggest single comfort upgrade, whether through new windows or secondary glazing.

If your flat's frames are in good order, replacing only failed or misted double glazed units may avoid the need for freeholder approval for new windows. In conservation areas, slim double glazed units can sometimes be fitted into traditional-style frames, but check with the council first, as listed buildings usually need consent.

For Victorian houses, we suggest sash windows or flush casements; for flats and estates, we coordinate with the freeholder or housing association first. Some streets near Sutton House are in conservation areas, and Hackney Council checks window designs closely. We are about 4 miles from Homerton.

Double glazing uses two panes of glass with a sealed, insulating gap between them, cutting heat loss, draughts and condensation compared with single glazing. We fit it in new windows and doors or as replacement sealed units, suiting almost every home, from older properties still single glazed to houses with failed units.

Questions from Homerton

Do I need planning permission for double glazing in Homerton?

Some streets in Homerton fall within conservation areas, so we check with Hackney Council before quoting. Flats and estate properties need freeholder or housing association consent. Replacing only the sealed glass units in existing frames does not normally need Building Regulations notification, while full window replacements are covered by our FENSA registration, though listed buildings may need consent.

How soon can you fit double glazing in Homerton?

Lead times vary by product and workload — confirmed with your quote. Being about 4.2 miles from our factory makes surveys, fitting days and aftercare visits easy to arrange.

Why is there condensation between my double glazed panes?

Condensation inside the unit means the seal has failed and moist air has got into the gap, so the unit has lost much of its insulating value. The frame itself is often fine, in which case we can measure and replace just the sealed unit rather than the whole window.

Can I see samples before I decide?

Yes. Our showroom is at Unit G, 1 Anthony Way, London N18 3QT (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm), about 4.2 miles from Homerton. We can also bring samples to your home in Homerton at the free survey.
