Flush windows in Canonbury

Around Canonbury you will mostly find Georgian and early Victorian terraces, squares and converted flats. In conservation areas, a flush window in a woodgrain finish can come closer to original joinery than standard uPVC, although council approval may still be needed.

Flush windows suit Victorian rear elevations and back additions, giving a cleaner joinery look than storm casements while sash windows stay on the front. Before choosing flush windows in a flat, confirm the freeholder accepts the colour and profile, since mixed styles across a block can breach lease terms.

Where a house is listed, replacing the windows may simply not be allowed. Secondary glazing is then the sensible route: it cuts draughts and street noise while the original sashes stay untouched. We talk through both options when we visit, and we are about 4.9 miles away.

Flush windows have opening sashes that sit level with the outer frame, recreating the look of traditional timber casements. Made in our own factory, they suit homeowners who want a heritage or contemporary appearance with the low maintenance of a modern frame, especially on period homes and stylish renovations.

• Sashes close flush like traditional joinery
• Available in woodgrain and colour finishes
• Balanced sightlines across the whole window
