French doors near you
French doors are a pair of hinged doors that open together to connect a room with the garden, patio or balcony. Available in uPVC and aluminium, they suit homeowners wanting a wide, classic opening without the space needed by bifold or large sliding door systems.

French doors: your questions
Should French doors open inwards or outwards?
Outward-opening French doors are most common in the UK, as they save internal space and seal well against the weather. Inward opening can suit balconies or tight patios. We'll look at your room, patio and any steps outside before recommending the best arrangement.
What is the difference between French doors and bifold doors?
French doors are two hinged leaves, so the opening is limited to their combined width. Bifold doors use several panels that fold and stack to one side, opening up a much wider space. French doors are simpler and often suit narrower openings, while bifolds suit wider rear elevations.
Can I replace a window with French doors?
Often, yes, but it means removing the wall below the window and possibly widening the opening, which needs a suitable lintel and Building Regulations approval. In flats, listed buildings and some conservation areas in London, planning permission may also be needed. We'll explain the process during the survey.
