Aluminium sliding doors in Shoreditch

The housing in Shoreditch is largely warehouse conversions, Georgian terraces and modern apartment blocks. On period homes in conservation areas, rear sliding doors are often acceptable where hidden from the street, but confirm with the council before ordering.

Modern homes and new builds suit wide sliding doors in grey or black, and choosing a low threshold helps link the kitchen floor with the patio. For restaurants, cafés and offices, sliding doors save floor space and give an open frontage onto terraces, though accessibility and escape routes must still be considered.

Noise is a real issue here, from Old Street and Great Eastern Street traffic to late-night bars, so we often recommend acoustic glazing for bedrooms. Access is the other challenge: parking is very limited, and many jobs are in shared buildings, so we arrange delivery times, loading and building management approval well before we arrive.

Sliding patio doors use large glass panels that glide along a track, opening up a rear wall without taking any space inside or out. Made with slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, living rooms and modern homes where owners want maximum glass, views and daylight.

• Slides open without swinging into rooms
• Maximises views and natural light
• Low threshold options for easier access
