Double glazing in Maida Vale

Around Maida Vale you will mostly find Edwardian mansion blocks, stucco villas and converted period flats. Many Victorian terraces still have single-glazed sashes, and moving to double glazing is often the biggest single comfort upgrade, whether through new windows or secondary glazing.

If your flat's frames are in good order, replacing only failed or misted double glazed units may avoid the need for freeholder approval for new windows. In conservation areas, slim double glazed units can sometimes be fitted into traditional-style frames, but check with the council first, as listed buildings usually need consent.

The Maida Vale conservation area covers much of the neighbourhood, and Westminster City Council expects windows to match originals closely, so we check before quoting. In mansion blocks the managing agent normally has a say on window style and colour, and fitting days must be planned around shared entrances and parking. We are about 8.4 miles away.

Double glazing uses two panes of glass with a sealed, insulating gap between them, cutting heat loss, draughts and condensation compared with single glazing. We fit it in new windows and doors or as replacement sealed units, suiting almost every home, from older properties still single glazed to houses with failed units.

• Less condensation on the glass
• Quieter rooms than single glazing
• Toughened and laminated safety glass options
