Double glazing for Earl’s Court homes

The housing in Earl’s Court is largely Victorian terraces converted to flats, mansion blocks and mews. Many Victorian terraces still have single-glazed sashes, and moving to double glazing is often the biggest single comfort upgrade, whether through new windows or secondary glazing.

If your flat's frames are in good order, replacing only failed or misted double glazed units may avoid the need for freeholder approval for new windows. In conservation areas, slim double glazed units can sometimes be fitted into traditional-style frames, but check with the council first, as listed buildings usually need consent.

Getting consent is usually the first job. The freeholder and the Royal Borough both have a say, and much of the area sits within conservation areas. We prepare drawings that make those conversations easier. Rooms facing Cromwell Road or Earls Court Road gain a lot from acoustic glazing, and we arrange parking and access with the building before fitting day.

Double glazing uses two panes of glass with a sealed, insulating gap between them, cutting heat loss, draughts and condensation compared with single glazing. We fit it in new windows and doors or as replacement sealed units, suiting almost every home, from older properties still single glazed to houses with failed units.

  • Warmer rooms and lower heat loss
  • Less condensation on the glass
  • Quieter rooms than single glazing

Questions from Earl’s Court

Do I need planning permission for double glazing in Earl’s Court?

Much of Earl's Court is within Kensington & Chelsea conservation areas, so we check with the Royal Borough and your freeholder before quoting. Replacing only the sealed glass units in existing frames does not normally need Building Regulations notification, while full window replacements are covered by our FENSA registration, though listed buildings may need consent.

How soon can you fit double glazing in Earl’s Court?

Lead times vary by product and workload — confirmed with your quote. Being about 10 miles from our factory makes surveys, fitting days and aftercare visits easy to arrange.

Can you replace just the glass rather than the whole window?

Yes, if the frames are in good condition. We measure the existing units, make replacements to size and fit them into your current frames. If the frames are warped, damaged or the hardware is failing, we'll explain whether a full window replacement would be better value in the long term.

Can I see samples before I decide?

Yes. Our showroom is at Unit G, 1 Anthony Way, London N18 3QT (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm), about 10 miles from Earl’s Court. We can also bring samples to your home in Earl’s Court at the free survey.
