Aluminium sliding doors in South Acton

The housing in South Acton is largely Victorian terraces, Edwardian houses and post-war estate flats. In Victorian side-return extensions, a two or three-panel sliding door gives wide views while staying practical in narrow gardens where swinging doors would get in the way.

Modern homes and new builds suit wide sliding doors in grey or black, and choosing a low threshold helps link the kitchen floor with the patio. Sliding doors suit flats opening onto balconies or terraces because they do not swing, but check freeholder consent and drainage at the threshold first.

The North London line and the District line both pass nearby, and some homes pick up rail noise as well as traffic from Bollo Lane. Acoustic glazing helps. Some streets near Acton Green fall within conservation areas, so we check those first, and for flats we confirm consent with the freeholder or housing provider. We are about 12.4 miles from our Edmonton factory.

Sliding patio doors use large glass panels that glide along a track, opening up a rear wall without taking any space inside or out. Made with slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, living rooms and modern homes where owners want maximum glass, views and daylight.

• Large panes with slim aluminium frames
