Acoustic glazing in Hoxton

The housing in Hoxton is largely Victorian terraces, warehouse conversions and post-war council flats. Victorian terraces often sit close to the pavement, so fitting acoustic glazing to front bedrooms first usually gives the most noticeable reduction in street noise.

Even modern double glazing can let in low-frequency traffic rumble, so upgrading to units with mixed-thickness laminated glass helps without replacing sound frames. In flats above shops or near transport, combine acoustic glazing with well-sealed frames and acoustic trickle vents, since ventilation gaps can undo much of the glass's benefit.

Traffic on the Kingsland Road and Old Street, plus late-night noise in parts of Hoxton, means many people ask us about acoustic glazing. Thicker, mixed-thickness glass can make a noticeable difference to bedrooms that face the street.

Acoustic glazing uses laminated glass with a sound-damping interlayer, often combined with panes of different thicknesses, to reduce noise coming through your windows. It suits homes and businesses near busy roads, railways, flight paths, schools and nightlife, where outside noise affects sleep, work or everyday comfort.

• Laminated glass adds safety and security
• Fits new windows or existing frames
• Works alongside double or secondary glazing
