Aluminium bifold doors for Highgate homes

Around Highgate you will mostly find Georgian houses, Victorian villas, terraces and mansion blocks. In conservation areas, bifolds are usually limited to rear elevations, and slim frames in muted colours help them sit comfortably with older brickwork.

On Victorian side-return extensions, a three-panel bifold with a traffic door works well, giving everyday access without folding back the whole set. Bifolds suit ground-floor flats and maisonettes with gardens, but check the lease and get freeholder approval, as alterations to external walls are often restricted.

We make sash windows to the original proportions and glazing bar patterns. Where the old frames must stay, secondary glazing fitted inside improves comfort without altering anything from the street. Houses on Archway Road face a lot of traffic, and acoustic glass helps there. Highgate is about 5.2 miles from our factory.

Bifold doors are made of several panels that fold and stack neatly to one side, opening almost the full width of a wall to the garden. With slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, garden rooms and homes where owners want a seamless link between indoor and outdoor living.

Questions from Highgate

Do I need planning permission for aluminium bifold doors in Highgate?

Highgate is a conservation area split between Haringey and Camden councils, with many listed buildings, so we check your property's status and the right council's guidance before quoting. Replacing existing doors with bifolds on a house is usually permitted development and covered by FENSA, but new or widened openings need Building Regulations approval, and flats, listed buildings and conservation areas may need planning consent.

How soon can you fit aluminium bifold doors in Highgate?

Lead times vary by product and workload — confirmed with your quote. Being about 5.2 miles from our factory makes surveys, fitting days and aftercare visits easy to arrange.

Should bifold doors open inwards or outwards?

Outward opening is most common, as the panels stack outside and do not take up room space. Inward opening suits small patios, balconies or areas exposed to strong wind. The best choice depends on where you want the stacked panels to sit and how you use the space.

Can I see samples before I decide?

Yes. Our showroom is at Unit G, 1 Anthony Way, London N18 3QT (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm), about 5.2 miles from Highgate. We can also bring samples to your home in Highgate at the free survey.
