Aluminium sliding doors for Hendon homes
The housing in Hendon is largely interwar semis, Victorian terraces near Church End and purpose-built flats. For 1930s semis with rear extensions, sliding doors keep sightlines clean across the garden and avoid bifold panel stacks taking up patio space.
In Victorian side-return extensions, a two or three-panel sliding door gives wide views while staying practical in narrow gardens where swinging doors would get in the way. Sliding doors suit flats opening onto balconies or terraces because they do not swing, but check freeholder consent and drainage at the threshold first.
Sliding patio doors use large glass panels that glide along a track, opening up a rear wall without taking any space inside or out. Made with slim aluminium frames, they suit kitchen extensions, living rooms and modern homes where owners want maximum glass, views and daylight.
- Large panes with slim aluminium frames
- Slides open without swinging into rooms
- Maximises views and natural light
Questions from Hendon
Do I need planning permission for aluminium sliding doors in Hendon?
Hendon's Church End is a conservation area, so we check designs with Barnet Council before quoting there; most other replacements need no permission. Replacing existing patio doors on a house is generally permitted development and covered by FENSA, but new or widened openings need Building Regulations approval, and flats, listed buildings and conservation areas may need planning consent.
How soon can you fit aluminium sliding doors in Hendon?
Lead times vary by product and workload — confirmed with your quote.
Can sliding doors have a flat threshold?
Many systems offer low or flush threshold options, which reduce trip hazards and create a smoother link between inside and outside. A flush threshold needs careful drainage design, so whether it suits your Hendon home depends on floor levels, the patio and exposure, which we check during the survey.
Can I see samples before I decide?
Yes. Our showroom is at Unit G, 1 Anthony Way, London N18 3QT (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm), not far from Hendon. We can also bring samples to your home in Hendon at the free survey.
